- Function:MySpace is a social networking website. Its purpose is to allow users to have an interactive, network of friends which has a profile for each user which contain photos and blogs, music and videos and an internal messaging system.
- Size:The population is at least 154 million with 230.000 accounts being made per day with each user having their own profile, with offset blog, photo, editing pages and many more, the figure would almost be incomprehensible.
- Design:ASP.net and SQL databases are used to power MySpace. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to style XHTML content present on the site.
- Form of Information:The information on the website comes in the forms of text, pictures, videos, flash animations and audio.
- Intended Audience:As quoted on MySpace: "Friends who want to talk online, single people who want to meet other singles, matchmakers who want to connect their friends with other friends, families who want to keep in touch, business people and co-workers interested in networking, classmates and study partners and anyone looking for long lost friends!"
- Security:The website uses a username and password system for both creating and maintaining accounts.
- Relationship with the real world:As a 'social networking' web site, the existence of MySpace can be viewed in the same vein as current 'real world' forms of communication such as the telephone; it serves as a method of communication.
- Legality:Myspace belongs to the News Corporation, now owned by Rupert Murdoch.
